Who We Are
Our Why, Our Way
It started with a little girl.
Danielle’s daughter was a vibrant and joyful little girl. But from the time she entered educational spaces, something began to dim. She was often misunderstood, overlooked, or labeled in ways that didn’t reflect her brilliance. At a young age, she began to ask hard questions — not just with her words, but with her silence, her sadness, her shrinking.
Danielle, a mother first and forever, noticed. The sparkle in her daughter's eyes dulled after long days at school. She watched her daughter twist her hair in uncertainty, question her beauty, and search for belonging in spaces that were never built with her in mind.
Danielle searched for something to pour joy, confidence, and culture back into her daughter’s world. She looked into pageants and girl-centered activities that might offer community, celebration, and self-love. But in her search, she saw a pattern: the options were rarely inclusive, often expensive, and almost never culturally relevant.
Where was the space that affirmed her daughter’s magic? Where were the programs that honored her daughter’s skin, her history, her voice, her crown?
That’s when Danielle realized… if she couldn’t find it, she’d build it.
And so, Curls, Coils & Crowns was born — not just as a program, but as a promise. A promise to her daughter, and to every Black girl like her, that they are seen, valued, and powerful beyond measure.
What began as one mother’s mission has blossomed into a movement — a sacred space where Black girls are celebrated for who they are, where their hair is loved, their voices heard, and their identities honored.
At Curls, Coils & Crowns, we don’t ask our girls to shrink or fit in.
We invite them to rise and stand out.
This is our why. And this — this is our way.
To provide a safe, affirming environment where Black girls learn to love who they are… unapologetically!
